POLNISCHE KÜNSTLER IN MÜNCHEN 1828-1914
Die Anwesenheit von weit über dreihundert polnischen Künstlern an der Münchner Kunstakademie, an privaten Kunstschulen und im Münchner Kunstverein zwischen 1828 und dem Beginn des Ersten Weltkriegs geht auf Fluchtbewegungen zurück. Nach der Unterdrückung der Aufstände von 1830 und 1863 sahen viele polnische Künstler, in der Hauptsache Maler, in ihrer Heimat keine Zukunft und gingen ins Ausland. Seit den 1870er-Jahren bildeten sie unter den Münchner Künstlern die größte nationale Gruppe, sodass man in der Kunstliteratur von einer „Polenkolonie“ sprach. Fast alle pflegten ihr Nationalbewusstsein und hielten enge Verbindung nach Polen. Einige von ihnen blieben für immer in Deutschland und wurden angesehene Mitglieder der „Münchner Schule“.

POLISH ARTISTS IN MUNICH 1828-1914
The presence of way over 300 Polish artists at the Munich Academy of Arts, private art schools in Munich, and in the Munich Art Society between 1828 and the start of the First World War can be ascribed to refugee movements. After the uprisings in 1830 and 1863 were repressed many Polish artists, mostly painters, saw no future in remaining in Poland and emigrated abroad. From the 1870s onwards they were the largest national group amongst artists in Munich, to such an extent that people in writings on art spoke of a “Polish colony”. Almost all of them remained conscious of their own nationality and upheld close links with Poland. Some of them stayed forever in Germany and were highly respected members of the “Munich School”.
